Sunless Spray Booths for Color Tanning

Sunless spray booths for tanning do not use ultraviolet (UV) light to tan your body. These booths use a spray that contains dihydroxyacetone (DHA) an agent that is used to provide a tan to the skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology it is a common ingredient in the most effective sunless tanning products used for tanning.

These booths provide tans that are effective for short durations and usually last for up to 10 days. Spray tanning is carried out by sprinklers in a booth that are available at most spas and tanning booths. The mist emitted by the sprays contains DHA, a chemical that reacts with dead skin cells and dyes the color of the skin a deep bronze color.

After this mist is sprayed,  the skin turns to a golden brown color that usually looks like a natural tan. The spray is applied topically and has no effect on melanin. As a result, the effect lasts only a few days and repeated applications are necessary to maintain the tan.

You should take precautions against the spray entering your eyes, mouths, lips and other sensitive areas. You should also try not to inhale the mist. The mist can be either water based or oil based. If you have a sensitive skin type then you should opt for the water-based spray.

Some of the saloons offer different types of mists depending upon shade of the color that you want on your skin. A very dark look may not look good on your skin.
