Tanning, be it from the sun or lamps can be bad and can cause skin cancer or have a harmful effect on the immune system. It may cause premature aging and wrinkling and give your skin a leathery appearance. These harmful effects may not be visible in teenage and youth when most of the people are tanning actively. But, they may make an appearance later on in life.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology (ADA) families are spending lots of time out in the parks and gardens. Thus a child is absorbing most of the solar radiations by the time he is 18. Playing out in the sun as part of recreational activities has been linked to increased risk of the most deadly type of cancer- melanoma.
The people who are using a tanning bed or a tanning lamp are no better. A tanning bed also works on the principle of emitting UV rays and can prove to be as harmful if not more as spending time in the sun. However, sunless tanning lotions have been pronounced to be the safest methods to acquire a tan. Even while using these indoor tanning products, applying sunscreens and sunblocks are absolute musts.
Thus excess of tanning has been linked to cancer. It is entirely up to us to prevent and minimize it by taking all possible precautions. Remember to follow moderation to prevent any kind of adverse effects.
