Easy Tanning

Tanning can be done outdoors by sitting under the sun or indoors in the tanning saloons. Indoor tanning provides you with a tan through the same fundamentals as does sitting in the sun- through the absorption of ultraviolet rays by the skin. However, outdoor tanning has the disadvantage that you can get overexposed to the sunlight's ultraviolet rays. The climate changes can fluctuate throughout the day and that can lead to problems like sunburn or skin cancer.

In the indoor tanning process, trained professionals provide instructions on the use of devices that produce ultraviolet rays. These devices include tanning beds, sunlamps and tanning booths. These devices allow you to control the amount of ultraviolet light that reaches your skin. Indoor tanning equipment emit the same two kinds of ultraviolet rays- Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B, that are emitted by the sun. The difference is that these equipment provide a controlled ratio of the two ultraviolet rays.

It is not possible to achieve this kind of control by sitting outdoors in the sun. In an outdoor setting, a variety of variables, such as weather conditions, seasonality and reflective surfaces make it an impossible exercise.

Indoor tanning procedures are also highly regulated by the government agencies. These agencies have mandated that exposure time for tanning sessions should be determined by a schedule mentioned on the tanning equipment that factors in the strength of the equipment to deliver a dosage and the type of an individual's skin. The schedule also takes into account the time period for which an individual has been tanning.

The government's guidelines on the performance standards of tanning products also increase the control involved in indoor tanning. For example, the mandated standards for sunlamp products cover a range of aspects, including temperature control, timer control, shielding eyewear, electrical safety, heat protection and equipment access. The government guidelines also warrant that such products have warnings that certain medications or cosmetics may enhance sensitivity to ultraviolet rays.

The controlled environment provided by indoor tanning can also help you get a uniform tan on various parts of your body as it allows you to focus the ultraviolet rays on the different parts. This is not possible with outdoor tanning where you cannot control the amount of sunlight falling on the various parts of your body.

Thus, indoor tanning certainly offers more control in terms of UV exposure, its intensity and the advantage of choosing any body part in particular. This is the reason why more and more people prefer to go for indoor tanning rather than baking themselves under the sun.
