The sun is supposed to sustain all life on
earth. It is the store house of all the energy that keeps rotating in
all forms of life. Its rays are supposed to be life-giving. Although,
there is also a lot of hullabaloo attached to the ill-effects of the UV
rays, sun is not all that bad. In fact, the body does benefit from sun
exposure in more then one ways. So, tanning in a way is even good for
the body.
The body is able to produce the much-needed Vitamin D
only in the presence of sunlight. That is why is also known as the
'sunshine vitamin'. It is in turn required to harness calcium for
building healthy bones. Enough amount of sun exposure prevents rickets
and other bone problems like osteomalacia.
Other health benefits include increased blood flow and easing of certain
conditions like psoriasis and vitiligo. The sun induces a feeling of
well-being and positivity. After spending a dark and gloomy winter,
sunshine can actually uplift your mood and help you to feel better and
more active.
Also, sunbathing is supposed to be very relaxing and
peaceful, which helps us keep our peace of mind. This feeling of
wellness may be due to the release of endorphins in the body. They are
the 'feel-good' hormones. And very obviously the tan does look good. It
makes us feel a part of the fashionable crowd. There are social
advantages of possessing a tanned skin, as it suggests health and wealth.
According
to some studies, UV rays are in fact good for our health. But, remember
that too much of anything is bad. This applies to UV rays as well. It is
best to tan but only within the time limits prescribed and only after
taking the proper precautions.
So go out and seek the sun. It is
beneficial. But, do not forget the precautions that you are supposed to
take.
