Sunless tanning usually refers to using particular chemicals on the skin to duplicate a natural suntan. The DHA in these tanning potions does offer protection against the sun equivalent to an SPF of about 2-4, but when purchasing a sun protection lotion, it is advisable to choose products with SPF of 15 or above. Sunless tans are also much safer than the tanning pills that contain beta-carotene banned by the FDA a long time ago.

One of the best features of a sunless tan is the tan is always temporary and can be reversed in a week's time, if you change your mind, and of course, takes much less time to be effective. The lotions can also be used to highlight particular areas instead of all parts of the body according to the user's preference.

And, of course, finally, some of the inexpensive products on offer in the market are as good, if not better, than the costlier boutique counterparts while strengthening your resolve to use sunscreens daily. Sunless tanners offer the best of both the worlds with a nice golden or brown tan as per your preference with no skin damage.

What’s more, the sunless lotion that now comes in the form of sprays, gels, mousses, and cosmetic wipes, apart from the lotion, has also been approved by the FDA, the Canadian Health Ministry, and most of the EU member nations. DHA base sunless tanning has also been recommended by several health organizations such as the Skin Cancer Foundation, and American Academy of Dermatology. So, for a safe and healthy tan, sunless tanning could very well substitute all other types of tanning processes out there.
