Though sunless tanning products offer you an easy way to get that tanned look, it is important that you use them in the right manner. Here is a step by step guide to using sunless tanning products.

Have everything ready
Before you start off with the tanning process, you need to have everything ready. Here is a checklist of all the things that you would need.

* Cotton washcloth
* Soap
* Skin lotion
* Self tanner
* Fingernail brush
* Loose outfit
* A band to keep your hair off

Wear the right thing
When you are using sunless tanning products, you need to wear extremely tight clothes that do not slip from their position. Lose clothes will keep moving across your body causing uneven tan lines. Also, make sure that you wear dark colored fabrics, preferably black. Avoid light colored fabrics completely to avoid staining of clothes.

Shower and exfoliate
Take a good hot water bath followed by cleaning with a cotton washcloth. This will help remove the dead skin cells from the skin surface and promise an even tan. You may also consider exfoliation in this step. Use one of the easily available commercial scrubs in the market for this purpose. When exfoliating, pay greater attention to rough areas like the knees, top of the feet, elbows, ankles and the like.

Create suitable surroundings
Since you have just taken a shower, your bathroom would be all steamy. Allow the steam to settle down before you begin with the tanning process. Also, ensure that the room is not too warm for you to sweat.

Moisturize
Never ever apply a sun tanning lotion directly to rough or dry skin. Make sure that you moisturize your skin prior to applying the tanner. Apply a moisturizing lotion to your entire body. Dab a little extra moisture on the elbows and wrists.

Start with the self tanner
Now start applying the self tanner. Use the self tanner generously for best results. Make sure that you start from above. For instance, if you are using the product on your legs, start from the thighs and then go down to your feet. Make sure that you apply the tanner quickly but thoroughly to avoid staining your hands. Wash your hands as soon as you are done with one body part. Start with your legs followed by your torso, back, arms and then your neck and face.
